2018-2019 Season

Some of our members performing a Hayden Divertimento at a recent chapter meeting

We are a group of Rochester-area recorder players who meet on Tuesday nights twice a month from September to May. Together with several talented volunteer teachers, the group provides opportunities to participate in learning sessions, consorts, and several performances. For this season, we are planning two workshops, and in May, a public concert to show what we've learned. Many of our members also play in small groups outside of our meetings -- perhaps you have seen them play.

The chapter was founded in the spring of 1965, and we are proud to have been meeting for over fifty years. See our history for some more details.

Fall 2018 -

Registration night & first meeting
Registration for 2018-2019 is Tuesday September 11 at 7:00 PM. Following registration there will be a brief meeting then we will have our two class sessions.

Beginners meet every Tuesday from 7:15 to 8:15. Our other classes meet on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month from September through May. We meet at the First Baptist Church of Rochester, 175 Allens Creek Road, Rochester NY 14618.

Our meetings are split into three parts. The first hour classes run from 7:15 to 8:15 pm and are grouped by level of playing so that everyone has a chance to learn and improve with people that have similar levels of playing skills. From 8:15 to 8:45 pm we typically have one of the classes or outside groups perform for part of the time with the rest of the time an informal meeting on chapter business, chapter events and outside performances of interest. The second hour classes run from 8:45 to 9:45 pm and cover different styles of music such as dance tunes, medieval, modern, Bach, etc. Our current course offerings are listed here.

Upcoming Events

Note: A "Chapter Meeting" includes first hour classes, a business meeting, and second hour classes. Beginners meet every week, and on weeks when a chapter meeting is being held, also are welcome to the business meeting. Business meetings are not "strictly business" -- we try to have one or two groups present a piece they are working on each time. It's a great way to hear what your friends are working on, or simply to be inspired.
